Parliament Malaysia- The Kick Off

NAME-CALLING, jeers and heckling, shouting, table thumping and the brandishing of the little blue book (Standing Orders) – that about summed up the first sitting of the House yesterday.

Chaos ruled during most of the one-and-a-half hours of question time, proving to be a baptism of fire for newly appointed Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia who kept his cool trying to maintain order in the House but failed rather miserably to get the MPs to listen.

The business of the House was delayed by a good 30 minutes when Karpal Singh (DAP – Bukit Gelugor) questioned the validity of the swearing-in ceremony of MPs on Monday.

Pandikar Amin had just formally announced Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (PKR – Permatang Pauh) as the Opposition Leader when Karpal Singh interrupted to say the oath taking had not been “properly administered” by the House secretary.

“The matter of swearing in has been completed. There are more important matters to be discussed,” replied the Speaker.

This sparked a melee of objections and shouts of “point of order” from Opposition members. As more and more joined the fray, Pandikar Amin had to resort to using the claret and repeatedly reminding all present that the decision of the Chair must be respected.

“When the Tun Yang di-Pertua is speaking, nobody can talk.

“What have been raised are all trivial and technical issues while there are more important questions to be answered. I was just sworn in on Monday, please give me a chance,” he pleaded, only to be drowned out.

Many had expected a lively and heated debate with the number of MPs almost equally divided between backbenchers and opposition MPs but what transpired was beyond expectation.

When Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was finally allowed to reply to the first question, another row erupted after the Speaker decided not to allow any supplementary questions.

An angry Lim Kit Siang (DAP – Ipoh Timur) accused Pandikar Amin of “making a mockery” of the House. “This has never happened before in the history of the House. It is the right of MPs to ask supplementary questions,” he said.

Many more minutes were spent arguing until the Prime Minister, who had been observing the proceedings with a smile, intervened and said he would take “one or two supplementary questions”.

Pandikar Amin, at various junctures, appealed to the MPs to behave like “gentlemen and ladies” and get down to serious matters.

Said to be a combative and outspoken leader, Pandikar Amin, 53, who was made Speaker of the Sabah State Assembly for close to two years in 1986, held a press conference later in the day to warn MPs not to test his patience.

Tired of the unruly proceedings, several ministers and MPs left the chambers, some shaking their heads as they walked out. Some ministers expressed disappointment that Wednesday's Cabinet meeting had been postponed for the Parliament sitting and they had come prepared to answer questions but to no avail.

At noon, the House was still bogged down by technical interpretations of various points in the Standing Orders and house rules, and only three of the 73 questions tabled had been answered.

Azmin Ali (PKR – Gombak) wanted the Opposition to be allowed to ask more questions as they had more members (82) than the backbenchers (77).

The Government block was out in full force yesterday, with attendance from many senior ministers, including Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The session was also televised live for the first time but the Information Ministry is now reviewing this, as some MPs are taking the opportunity to play to the gallery.

The situation got back to normal 10 minutes after noon when Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting (BN – Kulai) finally delivered the motion of thanks on the Royal Address. Even then, he was not spared by the Opposition.

His right to table to motion of thanks was raised over a technicality. When tabling the motion of thanks, Ong was constantly interrupted by those who “minta jalan”, including Karpal Singh, Ngeh Koo Ham (DAP – Beruas), Dr Lee Boon Chye (PKR – Gopeng), and Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim (PKR – Bandar Tun Razak).

It was only after lunch that the Dewan returned to its usual humdrum of debate.

THE Dewan turned into a “zoo” after the seating position of Datuk Ibrahim Ali (Ind – Pasir Mas) became a bone of contention between the Speaker and the Opposition.

Razali Ibrahim (BN – Muar) was trying to ask the first question of the sitting when Karpal Singh intervened on a point of order, prompting Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (BN – Kinabatangan) to stand up and interject.

When Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia allowed the latter to intervene, Karpal Singh said he hoped that the “bigfoot from Kinabatangan won’t disturb me”.

“You-lah, big monkey,” Bung Mokhtar retorted loudly.

Pandikar Amin then ticked off both MPs, telling them to stop this line of argument.

The DAP leader later pointed out that although Ibrahim had contested and won in the last general election on a PAS ticket, he was in the Dewan as an “independent candidate”.

“Can we know his exact position in the Dewan?” he asked the Chair.

The Speaker then told Karpal Singh off, saying that such trivial points should not be raised, to which the DAP leader shouted: “Ini bukan remeh (this is not trivial)!”

Pandikar Amin then responded: “Where Yang Berhormat sits depends on the discretion of the House. This is within my jurisdiction. If it has been decided that the YB should sit there, then there he should sit,” he said to loud cheers from the backbenchers.

Ibrahim irked the Opposition MPs when he teased wheelchair-bound Karpal Singh for “not respecting the House” by not standing up when speaking.

This riled Fong Po Kuan (DAP – Batu Gajah), who demanded that Ibrahim retract his statement but he merely told her to “shut up”.

“Retract it. You cannot insult a disabled person. I ask Pasir Mas to retract his words,” said Fong.

To this, Ibrahim said: “I usik-usik (tease) a little bit, sudah melenting (you're are throwing a tantrum).”

“Apa usik-usik?” she asked.

“Shut up!” he shouted.

Pandikar, who had the unenviable task of keeping the House in control, told MPs that he should not be reminding them again and again to refrain from using unparliamentary words.

Ibrahim, however, argued that there was nothing unparliamentary about his choice of words.

“I said ‘shut up’. In Bahasa, it is 'diam'. All this is because everybody wants to be on TV during the half hour,” he said, referring to the 30-minute live telecast of the parliamentary sitting.

PARLIAMENT has never been so “happening” as in the past few days. The lobby has been throbbing with life and activity. The corridors have been filled with MPs, the media, political aides and the public.

Various NGOs have also jumped into the fray, arriving with placards promoting their causes. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi sportingly accepted a placard bearing the slogan “Kotakan Kata” (keep your promises) from a gender-equality group.

Another group came with placards calling for the abolition of the ISA.

Forget about finding a place to sit unless one does not mind the floor. People crowded around the TV sets showing the proceedings in the House. The public gallery was so packed that more TVs had to be set up in an adjacent area where many just made themselves comfortable on the carpeted floor.

Even seasoned Parliament reporters admitted they had never seen anything like this in all their years covering parliamentary proceedings. Only the crowds that turn up during the annual tabling of the Budget come close to what they are experiencing the last few days.

Kulim Bandar Baru MP Zulkifli Noordin made a smart choice coming on his big bike because every inch of parking space was taken up. Cars were parked all the way to the main entrance.

Tony Pua (PJ Utara) was spotted making his way to Parliament from the security checkpoint where he had left his car, looking very smart in his suit and tie, but with a knapsack on his back.

And that is the other new thing about the new Parliament. Many of the newer MPs have broken the stereotypical mould of wakil rakyat.

Not only do they blog, but the usual leather briefcases have given way to more functional and trendy shoulder bags and knapsacks.

Lim Guan Eng (Bagan) carried a sleek aluminium briefcase. Datuk Bung Mokhtar Radin (Kinabatangan) may have been hopping mad at being labelled the “bigfoot of Kinabatangan” by Karpal Singh (Bukit Gelugor) but he strode in with a Louis Vuitton sling bag.

One also does not need a fancy car to become an MP. Teo Nie Chin (Serdang) came in a sunny yellow Kelisa.

Yesterday's maiden debate was an indicator of what is to come in the week ahead. It is going to be a closely-matched face-off between Barisan Nasional and Pakatan Rakyat.

In fact, Pakatan Rakyat has a slight edge in terms of numbers – 82 MPs against 77 backbenchers from the Barisan side.

Everyone was keen to make an impact yesterday, especially when the cameras were rolling for the special 30-minute live telecast on RTM, so much so that there was much calling on the Chair for “point of order” during the more chaotic moments.

In fact, “point of order” was the most frequently-used phrase yesterday.

The newer and younger faces will be the most closely watched.

When Chong Chieng Jen (Bandar Kuching) pointed out that a question from a Barisan MP had contravened the House rules because it exceeded 40 words, Khairy Jamaluddin (Rembau) was quick to point out that a question submitted by Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail (Permatang Pauh) had also exceeded the word limit.

Everyone will have to be on his toes.

But the MP who made everyone sit up and take note was Azmin Ali (Gombak). The PKR vice-president had presence, carried himself with composure and was polite. And he made a good point about the lop-sided number of questions that the Speaker had allocated to both benches.

Outside the House, there seemed to be a press conference or door-stop interview going on at every corner with many of those being interviewed coming from the Opposition bench. The public is intensely curious about this huge influx of Pakatan Rakayt MPs and the reporters know what their readers want.

“The Opposition MPs have different perspectives and quite original things to say about things,” said one reporter.

Even the wives and girlfriends who came on Tuesday attracted media attention.

Meanwhile, there was constant talk of the dawn of a new politics in the country.

But as one senior editor who has been avidly watching developments in Parliament pointed out, much of what he saw at the House was still very reminiscent of old politics.

“All that shouting at each other, the name calling and playing to the gallery – that is not new politics,” he said.

The business of Parliament was not apparent yesterday. Instead, it seemed like politics as usual and that, said the editor, was quite disappointing.

But yesterday was just the first day of debate so our Yang Berhormats have lots of time to prove that they are worthy of the votes that ushered them into Parliament.

BenQ's Slim beauty

BENQ recently launched what it claims is the world's thinnest 24in widescreen monitor – the V2400W, which is a mere 62mm at its thickest point.

Targeted at the premium luxury-lifestyle market, the V2400W offers the first glimpse of BenQ’s new Kinergy Design approach.

Among other things, the new design approach uses Rapid Heat Cycle Molding (RHCM) Injection Technology, which enables new shapes and designs to be made beyond the traditional boxiness, BenQ said.

Torque and friction between the metallic parts of the hinge are precisely calculated so that the right-sided stand can safely support the 24in widescreen and also provide the flexibility to adjust viewing angles. A mirror-black finish highlights the monitor’s premium status and a subtle blue LED and slick touch controls complete the V2400W's look, BenQ said.

Cool design aside, the V2400W does not hold back either when it comes to incorporating advanced features.

The RM1,499 monitor comes with the proprietary Advanced Motion Accelerator Technology (AMA) for super-fast 2ms GTG (gray to gray) response time; a 4,000:1 contrast ratio as well as full 1080p HD support.

There are also various ports such as HDMI, DVI-D and VGA, which ensures that the monitor is future-proof in terms of high-definition connectivity and compatibility.

AdverSCAM : Earn Money with clicks...(Beware!!)

I joined AdverSCAM in September 2007. What is AdverSCAM? AdverSCAM is a site where you get paid for viewing advertisement. For each advertisement you viewed for 30 seconds, you will get $usd0.01. The minimum payout is USD12.50. At first, they will pay you via paypal. Due to the change is Paypal policies, AdverSCAM's paypal account has been limited. Because of that, they plan to send our payment via cheque in stead of other payment processor like Alertpay, E-gold, Moneybooker etc..Why? they also introduced payment via ATM card. it costs USD30 for each ATM card.. and they did sent me my cheque..
But i have a problem cashing it out. The reason i get from bank is that the fees is over the value of my cheque. I need at least USd25 cover up my cheque but my bank only charged me USD5 for oversea cheque. i do not know what is the rest of the fees.. the bank officer told me that the other party will charge me as well due to oversea bank in. As a result, i send a support ticket to AdverSCAM.. this is response i get..

-------------------------------------------------------------

-------------------------------------------------------------
--- Administrations Response ---
-------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry but your bank is the one being "stupid" in this instance.
-------------------------------------------------------------

Again! Why they plan to send our payment via cheque in stead of other payment processor like Alertpay, E-gold, Moneybooker etc in the first place.. this is the best way to scam people. They did sent check to you, but it is not 100% guaranty can be cashed out. They would not responsible for the cheque sent. Whether you cashed out or not, that is your problem. If u cannot cashed out, then they will scam you money. For the ATM, i would like to ask a question to the member that purchased the card. "Do you receive your card?"And now they changed the payment processor to Alertpay. Why? Why wouldn't they continue sending payment via cheque? If they do, FBI will knock their door...

Hitman the movie.

i just watched the Hitman the movie. Its a very nice movie full of action. Although there is a confusing in the story line, but overall its a good movie. here is the plot that i get from wikipedia :

"The film opens with a montage showing a group of bald, blue-eyed boys receiving tattoos of bar codes and then shows them being instructed in the use of firearms & martial arts.

Interpol agent Mike Whittier discovers Agent 47 in his study, where the two talk briefly. The scene flashes back 3 months, as 47 is completing a hit in St. Petersburg, Russia. He receives a communication from his Organization contact, Diana, and is told he is to kill his next target, Russian President Mikhail Belicoff, publicly.

Agent 47 succeeds in killing Belicoff using a sniper rifle to achieve a head shot from over 4 km away. However, when 47 is in the train station ready to leave, he's told there's a witness–Nika Boronina–he has to kill. Confronting Nika on a street, he doesn't kill her as he realizes she's never seen him before. Additionally, Belicoff's death was covered up, being portrayed in the media as a grazing wound.

Agent 47 confronts Diana about who would want Nika dead when she wasn't a witness and why Belicoff is still being portrayed as alive. Outside, Mike Whittier and his partner have been tipped off that 47 is in the hotel. They encounter the FSB, lead by Yuri Marklov, who sends in an emergency response team to capture 47. Diana calls 47 directly, informing him that it was Belicoff himself who took out the contract. The troops attack and a hotel battle ensues. Agent 47 successfully escapes, however, the Organization he works for has dispatched assassins to kill him for failing his mission.
Agent 47 kidnaps Nika–who was about to be killed by her driver–and questions her. She suggests 47 may have killed one of Belicoff's doubles, but 47 denies that possibility. The two try to leave by train, but are intercepted by the Organization's assassins. Agent 47 is able to defeat four of them, defeats Mike Whittier who pursued, and escapes with Nika.
Agent 47 arranges a meeting with Agent Smith from the CIA. Agent 47 makes a deal: if Smith helps him sometime in the future, 47 will kill Belicoff's brother, Udre, a slave trafficker, and arms dealer. Smith accepts the deal. Agent 47 and Nika travel to Turkey, where he succeeds in killing Udre.

The death of Udre was a set-up designed to draw Belicoff's double–who, working with Yuri and an unseen cabal, is part of a plot to have a puppet leader in control of Russia–into the open. Agent 47 kidnaps Yuri and forces him to have his own FSB agents try to shoot "Belicoff" as he delivers a eulogy for Udre. Agent 47, disguised as a soldier, takes the double and kills him in the church. He then allows himself to be taken into custody by Interpol and Mike Whittier. However, Agent Smith intercedes at the last minute, allowing 47 to escape.

There is a flash forward to a conversation between agent Whittier and 47, which is taking place at Whitter's house. After wrapping up their conversation, 47 reveals the body of Mr. Price, shaved and dressed to look like 47. They make a deal in which Whitter would go along with 47's plan, admitting that the body in his home is the real 47. As 47 leaves, he turns to Whittier and says that he hopes to never see Whittier again, for the sake of both of them.
The scene then changes to Nika, who is shown picking up an envelope from an undisclosed sender. Inside it, there were papers and a message saying that she now owned a vineyard (she had told 47 of her childhood dream of having one). Meanwhile, 47 is watching her from afar, through the scope of his sniper rifle. He then looks at the corpse of another Hitman, lying close to him, and says "I told you to leave her alone. You should have listened." He then turns back, and walks away."

Intel Atom

As Intel's smallest and lowest power processor², the Intel Atom processor will enable the industry to design new Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs) and affordable Internet-focused notebooks (netbooks) and desktops (nettops). This new processor also serves as the foundation for the all new Intel® Centrino® Atom™ processor technology, a collection of chips that enables amazing Internet experiences in pocketable devices.

Newly designed from the ground up, 45nm Intel Atom processors pack an astounding 47 million transistors on a single chip measuring less than 25mm², making them Intel's smallest and lowest power processors.¹ All this, and while still delivering the power and performance you need for full Internet capabilities.

-Get a new range of power-efficient devices with excellent performance enabled by all new hafnium-infused 45nm high-k silicon technology
-Increase energy efficiency in smaller more compact designs with a thermal design power specification ranging from subwatt to 2.5 watts for mobile devices
-Extend battery life in select devices with an incredibly low idle power as low as 30 mW allowing the device to stay powered on while also conserving energy

Powering the next generation of Internet-centric devices, Intel Atom processors will power the latest in pocketable, portable devices. Based on an entirely new microarchitecture, the Intel Atom processor was developed specifically for performance and low power while maintaining full Intel® Core™ microarchitecture instruction set compatibility. Some Intel Atom processors will also feature multiple threads for better performance and increased system responsiveness.

Devices powered by Intel Atom processors allow you to stay in touch on-the-go, connect to business and enjoy entertainment, remain connected affordably with a new series of netbooks and nettops, and so much more.

"SANTA CLARA, Calif., March 2, 2008 – The Intel® Atom™ processor will be the name for a new family of low-power processors designed specifically for mobile Internet devices (MIDs) and a new class of simple and affordable Internet-centric computers arriving later this year. Together, these new market segments represent a significant new opportunity to grow the overall market for Intel silicon, using the Intel Atom processor as the foundation. The company also announced the Intel® Centrino® Atom™ processor technology brand for MID platforms, consisting of multiple chips that enable the best Internet experience in a pocketable device.

Intel® Atom™ processor Intel® Centrino® Atom™ processor technology

The Intel Atom processor is based on an entirely new microarchitecture designed specifically for small devices and low power, while maintaining the Intel® Core™ 2 Duo instruction set compatibility consumers are accustomed to when using a standard PC and the Internet. The design also includes support for multiple threads for better performance and increased system responsiveness. All of this on a chip that measures less than 25 mm², making it Intel's smallest and lowest power processor yet.1 Up to 11 Intel Atom processor die -- the tiny slivers of silicon packed with 47 million transistors each -- would fit in an area the size of an American penny.

These new chips, previously codenamed Silverthorne and Diamondville, will be manufactured on Intel's industry-leading 45nm process with hi-k metal gate technology. The chips have a thermal design power (TDP) specification in 0.6-2.5 watt range and scale to 1.8GHz speeds depending on customer need. By comparison, today's mainstream mobile Core 2 Duo processors have a TDP in the 35-watt range.

"This is our smallest processor built with the world's smallest transistors," said Intel Executive Vice President and Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Sean Maloney. "This small wonder is a fundamental new shift in design, small yet powerful enough to enable a big Internet experience on these new devices. We believe it will unleash new innovation across the industry."

With personal computing increasingly going mobile and the computer industry rapidly developing new classes of products to connect the next billion people to the Internet, the Intel Atom processor offers customers the unique ability to innovate around the new low-power design. In addition to the MID opportunity, Intel believes the demand for a new category of low-cost, Internet-centric mobile computing devices dubbed "netbooks" and basic Internet-centric desktop PCs dubbed "nettops," will grow substantially over the next several years. The Intel Atom processor is perfectly suited to meet these new market segments.

Intel said the Intel Atom processor also has potential for future revenue opportunities in consumer electronic devices, embedded applications and thin clients."

Intel and Me..

MAC OS X in my XP..

Last week i play around with my operating system. i downloaded an image of MAC X OS Tiger in torrent. i installed VMware in my XP. What is VMware? VMware actually is a software to create a virtual machine inside your operating system. VMware is very similar with Virtual PC by Microsoft. After download the image, i have to extract it out. The size of compressed image is 1.33GB. After it is extracted, the size become 7GB. After i boot the image using VMware, i can have 2 operating system in my computer. Actually its kind of fun playing with operating system. The good thing about this virtual machine is that we can test an unknown program before we installed in our real operating system. This is to protect our computer from an unexpected viruses/adware/malware etc..

Handphone in washing machine..

I just received a call from my gf. it is very disappointed to hear that she wash her clothes with her mobile phone inside her pant. It is a very careless move that she made. Luckily her phone is an old model of Sonyericsson k530i. What will happen if its an Iphone.. i gonna kill her for that..ha.. its a good lesson for her..

Is there any way to save your phone after its drop into water?
There is a possibility that your phone still can survive. There are several steps that u have to take.

1)Do not ON your hp.
2) remove all the covers that can be removed and battery as well
3)let it dry by using hairdryer or put under sun.
4)Put your battery and try to ON it after 2/3 days..

there is a hope that you won't need a new phone..good luck

The CA Security Advisory Team provides a range of standalone cleaning utilities and useful tools for the most widespread and dangerous viruses.

Generally, if you're using the current engine and signatures for eTrust Antivirus, Vet, or EZ Antivirus, and have enabled the System Cure/Clean feature, you will not need these tools or utilities.

CA Antivirus solutions are a complete package, and contain advanced technology that provides you with all the virus protection you'll ever need, including the ability to clean up if things go awry.

These tools and utilities may be especially useful for those who either do not use CA Antivirus solutions, or who may be using products based on older technology that does not support system cleaning.

These utilities are no longer being actively developed and maintained, and will only address the variants of these families that are specifically listed on each utility download page.

However, our free online eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner provides detection and cleaning for the latest viruses, trojans and worms from within your web browser.

The software is free of charge, and requires no additional components. All that is required to be able to use the web scanner is an Internet connection, and Microsoft Internet Explorer Version 4 or later.
